2019 BMW International Open Wrap-Up
It was an exciting event in Munich, and in the end, Andrea Pavan defeated Matthew Fitzpatrick in a sudden-death playoff. Jordan Smith began the day with a one-shot lead over Fitzpatrick and was four shots clear of Pavan, but a slow start would take the 54-hole leader out of contention in a hurry. Meanwhile, Andrea Pavan opened with a birdie on 1, and added three more on the front 9 to make the turn in 4-under 32 to tie the lead. Matthew Fitzpatrick’s birdies on 13 and 14 would give him the outright lead, but Evan answered with birdies on 16 and 18. A bogey on 17 would force Matt to make birdie on 18, and he answered the call to send the tournament into extra holes. Andrea’s birdie on the par-5 18th would give the Italian his 2nd career European Tour victory.
Next week, the European Tour heads to Andalucia, Spain for the Andalucia Masters.
