2019 Charles Schwab Challenge Preview

The tradition of a PGA Tour event in the Fort Worth area continues this week at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club. Last year, Justin Rose defeatedBrooks Koepka by three strokes for his 9th career PGA Tour victory. This year, the reigning FedEx Cup champion is defending his crown against some of the Tour’s best despite being the week after a major. Notables in the field include past champions at Colonial Kevin Kisner and Jordan Spieth, along with Texas residents Rory Sabbatini and Jimmy Walker.

LOCATION

Colonial Country Club :

Colonial Country Club is one of the most historic golf courses in America. Known for its association with Fort Worth-native and golf legend Ben Hogan, the golf course has also hosted a Men’s and Women’s U.S. Open and a Tournament Players Championship. With its narrow fairways and small greens, solid ball striking is imperative at this classically-designed golf course.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Jon Rahm: Currently ranked 18th in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, the Spaniard is having a great season thus far. He finished in a tie for 5thhere last year, which demonstrates his game is ideal for this course. He never won more than one tournament in a season, but this is a great opportunity to do so.

Jordan Spieth:  It’s been an 18-month struggle for the young phenom, but his brilliant putting display in last week’s PGA Championship catapulted him into a tie for third. The 2017 winner of this event will have plenty of momentum and a chance to end his winless drought.
