2019 Open de Espana Wrap-Up

Successful title defenses are great, but when they occur in one’s home country. Jon Rahm’s incredible five-stroke victory over fellow Spaniard Rafa Cabrera-Bello was one for the record books, and it began with a five-shot lead heading into the final round. After three straight pars, Rahm hit a beautiful iron into the par-5 4th, and the eagle extended the lead to seven. Jon added more birdies at 7, 9, and 10 gave him plenty of cushion with only 8 holes remaining. Rahm birdied the 14th, and despite a valiant run of birdies from Cabrera-Bello, it wouldn’t be enough. A bogey on 17 and a par on 18 gave Jon Rahm a final round 66 and his 5th career European Tour title.

Next week, the European Tour heads to Rome for the Italian Open.
