2019 Scandinavian Invitation Wrap-Up
It was a tense finish in Sweden at this week’s Scandinavian Invitation, where Erik Van Rooyen emerged victorious by one stroke over Matthew Fitzpatrick. The duo started the day in the same position they finished in, and they both had great front nines. Fitzpatrick birdied the 3rd,4th, and 9th holes, while Van Rooyen birdied 3, 5, 8, and 9 to take a two-shot lead into the back nine. Erik made it three in a row on the 10th to increase the lead to three, but Matt answered with a birdie on 11. They both birdied the 13th, and Matthew would play the 14th through the 17th in even while Van Rooyen’s bogey brought the lead to one going into the last. After Fitzpatrickmade birdie on the 18th, Erik Van Rooyen answered with a birdie of his own to earn his first career European Tour victory.
Next week, the European Tour carries on to Switzerland for the Omega European Masters.
