2019 World Golf Championships - Fed Ex St. Jude Invitational Preview
The final WGC event of the 2018-2019 PGA Tour season takes place this week at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. After 19 years of being hosted at FirestoneCountry Club, this World Golf Championship makes its new home at the annual site of the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Last year, Justin Thomas defeated KyleStanley by four strokes to earn his first WGC title and 9th career PGA Tour victory. This year, he will defend his crown against a strong 64-player field which includes 46 of the top 50 players in the world. Multiple WGC winners in the field include 6-time winner Dustin Johnson, 3-time winner Phil Mickelson, and two-time winner Jason Day. Dustin Johnson is also the would-be defending champ at TPC Southwind, having won last year’s FedEx St. Jude before its raise in status. Other notables include 3 of this year’s 4 major champions, including last week’s Open Champion Shane Lowry.
LOCATION
TPC Southwind:
has hosted a PGA Tour event since 1989. Featuring several water hazards and nearly 100 bunkers, the course is routinely ranked among the Tour’s toughest golf courses. The winning score often depends on the weather, and if a player has an outstanding ball-striking round, great scores are possible at TPC Southwind.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Dustin Johnson: Only Tiger Woods has more wins in WGC events than DJ. However, Dustin Johnson’s advantage is he is also a two-time winner at TPC Southwind. Look for him to be a factor on the weekend.
