Fora variety of on- and off-course reasons, Jon Rahm and Ryan Palmer teamed up this week at the season’s only team event, and the matchup resulted in a 3-stroke victory over the European team of Sergio Garcia and Tommy Fleetwood. In the final round Alternate Shot format, Rahm/Palmer started the day tied for the lead with Scott Stallings and Trey Mullinax, but quickly took the lead after the Stallings/Mullinax duo began the day with a bogey. After a birdie on the par-5 2nd, Rahm/Palmer opened up a two-shot lead, but would give back a stroke on the 6th and made the turn in even par. A birdie on10 gave them a three-stroke cushion, and birdies on 13 and 14 allowed them to coast in with pars and a final round 3-under 69. While Jon Rahm has his third career PGA Tour win in his 3rd season, the victory ends a nine-year winless drought for Ryan Palmer, who earns his 4th career title.
Next week, the PGA Tour heads to Charlotte, North Carolina for the Wells Fargo Championship.
