2020 Puerto Rico Open Preview

Some of golf’s rising stars are teeing it up along the Caribbean Sea at the 12th annual Puerto Rico Open. Last year, Martin Trainer outlasted four other players by three shots for his first career PGA Tour win. If he wants to successfully defend his title, he will have to beat a strong field, filled with seasoned veterans and young hotshots. Past winners of the Puerto Rico Open in this year’s event include 2014 winner Chesson Hadley, 2017 winner D.A. Points, and 2013 Champion Scott Brown. Other notables in the field include four-time PGA Tour winner Chad Campbell, and former FedEx Cup champion Bill Haas.

LOCATION

Coco Beach Golf Course - has hosted every official Puerto Rico Open since its inception in 2008. As is the case with most oceanside golf courses, the weather can have a dramatic effect on scoring.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Matthew NeSmith: Despite a rough start to the season, he hasn’t finished outside of the top-35 in 2020, which includes a tie for 11th at Pebble Beach. The Korn Ferry Tour Finals winner will have a great opportunity for another solid finish.

Patrick Rodgers:  He’s had three runner-up finishes in his career, and his 2020 season is headed on the right track. Look for him to contend and potentially earn that elusive first victory this week in Puerto Rico.
