2020 South African Open Wrap-Up

There hasn’t been back-to-back South African winners of their national open since 2010-2011, but that streak came to an end after Brendan Grace’s thrilling three-stroke victory over defending champion Louis Oosthuizen. It was Oosthuizen who held the solo 54-hole lead, and Grace started his final round on a sour note with a bogey on the 2nd. However, Brendan would bounce back with a birdie on the 3rd, and eagle on the 4th, and a birdie on the 5th to share the lead with Louis. Oosthuizen would make a stunning hole-in-one on the par-3 8th to regain the solo lead, but Brendan Grace responded with birdies on 7 and 9 to tie the lead with only 9 holes to go. Unfortunately for Oosthuizen, Brendan added four consecutive birdies on holes 11-15 to storm ahead by three. Four closing pars was all Brendan Grace needed to close out a spectacular 9-under 62 and capture his first European Tour title since the Nedbank Golf Challenge in2017.

Next week, the European Tour heads to theUnited Arab Emriates for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
