2020 World Golf Championships - Mexico Championship Preview

The game’s best from around the globe are heading to Mexico this week for the 4th edition of the WGC - Mexico Championship. Last year, Dustin Johnson defeated an elite field by five shots for his 20th-career PGA Tour title and his sixth World Golf Championship. This year, he will attempt to win his third WGC - Mexico Championship against another tough field, which includes the reigning FedEx Cup Champion Rory McIlroy. Other notables in the field include current FedEx Cup points leader Justin Thomas, hometown favorite Abraham Ancer, and Adam Scott, who won last week's Genesis Invitational.

LOCATION

Club de Golf Chapultepec - has been the only host of the World Golf Championships - Mexico Championship. Located about a 30-minute drive west of the heart of Mexico City, this golf course has been a welcomed edition to the tournament circuit. Narrow, tree-lined fairways place a premium on accuracy, and the driveable holes provide plenty of excitement for the fans.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Dustin Johnson: His worst finish in this event is a tie for 7th in 2018, and he has more WGC titles than everyone except Tiger Woods. Coming off a respectable finish at the Genesis Invitational, DJ will have some momentum to capture another trophy in Mexico.

Abraham Ancer:  Although he hasn’t fared particularly well in this limited-field tournament, nothing would make the Mexican crowds happier than seeing Abraham Ancer hoist the trophy at week’s end. He already has three top-10s this season, so look for him to contend come Sunday.
