The European Tour returns to famed Real Club Valderrama in Sotogrande, Spain for the fourth edition of the Andalucia Valderrama Masters. Last year, the tournament host Sergio Garcia claimed victory by one stroke over Joost Luiten. Sergio is back to defend his title against a tough field, including Spain’s Adrian Otaegui and Alvaro Quiros, both of whom have won on Tour. Other notables include multiple-time winner this season Richard McEvoy as well as eight-time European Tour champion Thongchai Jaidee.
Real Club Valderrama has been hosting high profile tournaments since 1982, including the first Ryder Cup every played in Continental Europe back in 1997. A score around or slightly above 10-under par is usually what it will take for the champion to hoist the trophy at week’s end.
Players to Watch:
Andrea Pavan: The 29-year-old Italian has had an incredible season, including a win and three straight top-20 finishes going into this week’s event. Currently 32nd in the Race to Dubai standings, a solid week could really help him move further up the rankings.
Sergio Garcia: Despite the struggles during the beginning of the season, Sergio still has to be considered the favorite in his home country. He’s won this event twice, and a title defense would go a long way to boost his confidence going into he final stretch of the 2018 European Tour season.
