2018 Australian PGA Championship Preview
Posted on November 26 2018
The European Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia combined for the co-sanctioned Australian PGA Championship at Royal Pines Resort in Gold Coast, Queensland. Last year, Cameron Smith had his breakthrough individual victory in a playoff over Jordan Zunic, and he’s back to defend his crown against some of the best players from all over the world. Past Australian PGA Champions in the field include Harold Varner III, Robert Allenby and two-time winner Greg Chalmers, alongside former U.S. Open Champion Geoff Ogilvy and crowd favorite Andrew Johnston.
The Royal Pines Resort will host this prestigious event for the sixth straight year. The tournament has been a stroke play event since 1964, and the past winners have been amongst Australia’s best players, including Adam Scott, Greg Norman, Ian Baker-Finch, and Wayne Grady.
Players to Watch:
Adrian Otaegui: Adrian had a strong finish to his 2018 season, with a T4 at the DP World Tour Championship and a T3 two weeks prior in Turkey. After a week of rest, look for the Spaniard to be a factor this week in Queensland.
Cameron Smith: Fresh off a runner-up in the World Cup of Golf alongside Marc Leishman, the defending champ will be eager to make it back-to-back wins in his homeland. Don’t be surprised to see him contend on the back 9 Sunday.
