2018 Dell Technologies Championship Preview
Posted on August 27 2018
The PGA Tour returns to Boston, Massachusetts for the 2nd leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs at the Dell Technologies Championship. Last year, Justin Thomas capped off his Player of the Year season with his fifth victory of the 2016-2017 season by three strokes over Jordan Spieth. This year, he returns to defend his title against the top 100 players remaining in the FedEx Cup Standings. Notables include past winners Rory McIlroy, who is making his first start in the Playoffs after a week break, Adam Scott, and Tiger Woods, and Phil Mickelson. Other notables include Bryson DeChambeau, the new leader of the Playoffs, Brooks Koepka, who has two major victories this year alone, and Dustin Johnson, who has three wins this season.
TPC Boston has been the only host of this event since its inception in 2003. The course is capable of producing incredibly low scores depending on course conditions, and the par-5 18th serves as one of the most exciting finishing holes on Tour. After this week, only the top 70 will move onto next week.
The tournament kicks off on Friday and concludes Monday, on Labor Day.
Players to Watch:
Adam Scott: A third at the PGA Championship and a tie for fifth last week shows that Adam is rounding into form nicely, especially on the greens. The 2003 winner of this event will be looking for his first victory since March 2016.
Rory McIlroy: He won here back in 2016 on his way to capturing the FedEx Cup, and after a week off to rest, his game should be ready. Look for Rory to be a factor going into Sunday.
