It was certainly a thrilling finish to what has been one of the more exciting European Tour seasons, and the Race to Dubai results came down to the final round. After Danny Willett’s stunning Masters victory in 2016, he found himself in a bit of a slump; however, his two-stroke victory this week over Matt Wallace and Patrick Reed certainly shows his determination to regain his form. Having began the day tied for the lead for Race to Dubai contender and this year’s Masters champion Patrick Reed, Willett’s eagle on the second combined with Reed’s opening hole bogey gave him a quick three shot lead, but the battle would be far from over. Starting the back nine five shots behind Danny Willett, Patrick Reed made up four strokes in three holes, and the two major champions would match birdies on 14 and 15. The turning point of the tournament would occur, where Willett’s birdie would result in a two-shot swing with a Reed bogey. A par at the last gave Danny Willett his sixth career European Tour victory and his first since his win at Augusta National.
Open Champion Francesco Molinari would claim the Race to Dubai crown, while Patrick Reed finished second in the standings.
