This year’s FedEx St. Jude Classic will mark the final time it’s played the week before the U.S. Open. In 2019, it will be played as a World Golf Championship the week after the Open Championship. Last year, Daniel Berger successfully defended his 2016 title by one shot over Whee Kim and Charl Schwartzel. He’ll look for the three-peat against a powerhouse field, which includes former Open Champions Phil Mickelson and Henrik Stenson, along with former Masters Champs Adam Scott and Charl Schwartzel.
TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee has hosted this tournament since 1989. As one of the tougher courses on Tour, with over 7,200 yards as a par 70, look for the winning score to range between -9 and -13.
Players to Watch:
Adam Scott: Nobody has more to gain from this week’s event than the Australian star. Currently 64th in the Official World Golf Rankings, he needs a strong finish to guarantee a spot in next week’s U.S. Open and avoid both sectional qualifying and losing his current streak of 67 consecutive majors played. With two top-15s in his last four starts, he certainly has the opportunity to keep his majors streak alive.
Phil Mickelson: With six top-5 finishes and a win this season, nothing seems to be slowing down Lefty, who turns 48 in two weeks. He’s had great success at this event but has yet to win it. He could finally pick up a victory here this week.
