This has been a week of win droughts ending, and this week’s Mayakoba Golf Classic has been won by the affable Matt Kuchar by one stroke over Danny Lee. Kuch started the final round with a four shot lead over Whee Kim, and after four birdies in the first 13 holes, he seemed to be in the driver’s seat. However, back-to-back bogeys on 14 and 15 coupled with a surge from Danny Lee, and Matt Kuchar’s lead was suddenly trimmed to one. The veteran would go on to par the last three holes, and his final round 2-under 69 would be good enough for his 8th career PGA Tour victory, and with his win, he moves to 5th in the FedEx Cup standings. Coincidentally, both Kuchar and Westwood both ended 4 ½ year winless droughts in the same week.
Next week, the PGA Tour heads to Sea Island, Georgia for the RSM Classic.
