The penultimate event of the Race to Dubai takes place at the Gary Player CC at Sun City, South Africa, which boasts one of the richest prizes on the European Tour. Last year, Branden Grace emerged victorious by one stroke over Scott Jamieson; he’s back this season to try and defend his title against a small but stacked field, including previous winners Danny Willett and European Ryder Cup team captain Thomas Bjorn. Other notables in the field include multiple major championship winner Rory McIlroy, recent winner and Masters champ Sergio Garcia, and Matt Wallace, who has three victories so far this season.
All six editions of this event have taken place at Gary Player CC. Gary Player is the one of the winningest players in history, and at over 7,300 meters, it is one of the longest golf courses in the world.
Players to Watch:
Branden Grace: He hasn’t had the best of seasons yet, but this is one of the most prestigious events in his home country, and he tends to play well here. Be on the lookout for him to turn his season around with a strong showing this week.
Haotong Li: Coming off a playoff loss to Justin Rose last week, Li has produced for straight finishes in the top 11, and is one of the hottest golfers coming into this week’s event. With a win earlier in the season, a third career victory is well within his grasp.
