2018 Nordea Masters Preview
Posted on August 20 2018
The 28th annual Nordea Masters kicks off this week at Hills GC in Gothenburg, Sweden. Last year, Renato Paratore won his first career European Tour event by one stroke over Matthew Fitzpatrick and Chris Wood. This year, he will defend his title against some of the best players on the European circuit, including 11-time Tour winner and Sweden native Robert Karlsson and two-time major champion Martin Kaymer. Other notables include Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Bjorn and David Howell, who is making his 600th career start on the European Tour, becoming the tenth player in history to accomplish this feat.
The Nordea Masters is being played at the Hills GC for the first time in the tournament’s history this year. Opened in 2005 and renovated in 2014 by Johan Edfors, the Hills GC will be an exciting test of golf for this year’s event.
Players to Watch:
Thorbjørn Olesen: The 28-year-old has had an impressive run in the last two months, which includes a win in June at the Irish Open and a tie for third at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. With precious Ryder Cup points on the line, Olesen will be looking to capitalize in Sweden.
Alexander Björk: With a win already under his belt this season at the Volvo China Open, the hometown crowds can certainly help him regain his confidence after his incredible start to the year. Look for him to be a contender this week.
