2018 Safeway Open Wrap Up
October 09 2018 – AARON CAMILLERI

The 2018-2019 PGA Tour Season’s first event is in the books, and what a way for the new season to get started, as Kevin Tway, son of PGA Tour star and 1986 PGA Champion Bob Tway, won the Safeway Open in a three-way playoff over Ryan Moore and Brandt Snedeker. Snedeker began the final round with a three-stroke lead over Tway, but struggled with three straight bogeys to begin the back nine, which allowed those chasing back in the mix. Despite the struggles, Brandt found himself still holding the lead, but Kevin Tway found a way to close a three stroke gap in the last three holes with birdies on 17 and 18. Meanwhile, Ryan Moore made birdies on three of the last four holes to join them at 14-under par. After Sneds failed to birdie the par-5 last, the trio would head to extra holes. Brandt would bogey the first playoff holes, leaving only two left, and on the third playoff hole, Kevin Tway would make birdie to clinch his first PGA Tour victory and take the early lead in the FedEx Cup standings.
Next week, the PGA Tour heads to Malaysia for the CIMB Classic.
