2018 Sanderson Farms Championship Preview
Posted on October 22 2018
Played opposite of the WGC – HSBC Champions is the 25th edition of the Sanderson Farms Championship. Last year, 41-year-old Ryan Armour broke through for his first PGA Tour victory by five strokes over Chesson Hadley, and he will defend his title against a strong field mixed with veterans and Tour rookies. Former tournament champions in the field include Scott Stallings, Cody Gribble and Nick Taylor, and are joined by recent Hall-of-Fame inductee Retief Goosen, former major champion Lucas Glover, and 2018 Web.com Tour Player of the Year Sunjae Im.
The Country Club of Jackson has hosted this tournament since 2014; soft conditions usually lead to very low scoring, and the last five events have had a winning score in the 16-20 under range.
Players to Watch:
Aaron Baddeley: The four-time PGA Tour winner is on the last year of his exemption stemming from his win at the Barbasol Championship in 2016, and has shown signs of good form. After beginning the season with a T-4 at Safeway Open, look for Badds to be a contender this week.
Hunter Mahan: Hunter has had a bit of a resurgence over the last season, and he was able to play his way back into full status on the PGA Tour with his performance in the Web.com Finals. He finished in the top 20 in Napa Valley, and will look to continue his solid play in Mississippi.
