2018 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Preview
Posted on October 29 2018
Las Vegas, Nevada is one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world, and this week they’ll host the PGA Tour’s best at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Last year, Patrick Cantlay survived brutal conditions during the final round to capture his first PGA Tour win in a playoff over Whee Kim and Alex Cejka. This year, he will have his work cut out for his title defense, as some of the game’s most elite players are making their way to the desert. Former champions and Vegas natives Ryan Moore and Kevin Na join fellow past champs Webb Simpson and Rod Pampling. Former number-one ranked Jordan Spieth makes his season debut, and last week’s winner Cameron Champ will try to make it back-to-back wins in consecutive weeks.
TPC Summerlin has hosted this tournament since 1992, and continues to be a favorite amongst fans and players alike. Last year’s 9-under winning score is a rarity and weather played a huge factor in the scoring; if the weather is normal, the winning score will typically be 20-under or higher.
Players to Watch:
Bryson DeChambeau: Coming off the best season of his career, Bryson looks to continue his stellar play in this week’s event. Having skipped the Asian swing, he should be well rested and ready to play his best golf.
Tony Finau: It’s hard to believe the recent Ryder Cup participant only has one win to his credit. His playoff loss in last week’s WGC event is another example of how close he is to closing the deal and getting his second win. This week’s tournament could be the place it happens.
