The long-anticipated heads-up, pay-per-view battle between two living legends took 22 holes and a makeshift par-3 to decide, and in the end Phil Mickelson outdueled Tiger Woods to take home the $9 Million prize and bragging rights over his long-time rival. Not only did Phil take home the huge purse, he also won an extra $600,000 in side action over Woods. The match was tightly contested, with no one having no more than a 1-up lead in the match play format. Going into the back nine, Phil held a 1-up lead only to find himself down a hole after the 12th. Mickelson regained a 1-up lead on 15 and held it until Tiger created the most dramatic moment in the match with a chip-in birdie on 17 to square the match with one hole to play. After they halved 18 with pars, they would play a 93-yard hole to determine a winner. On the 4th playoff hole, Phil sunk his 4-foot birdie putt to take home the cash and the championship belt.
