2019 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship Wrap-Up

During a final round that saw seven lead changes, the first event of the 2019 European Tour calendar year was filled with drama, and in the end, Shane Lowry earned the victory by one stroke over Richard Sterne. Beginning the day with a three-shot lead, Lowry had an up-and-down start to his round, with 3 bogeys and 2 birdies to make the turn in 1-over 37 to find himself 3 strokes behind Sterne. After falling 4 behind with a bogey at 11, Shane Lowry would make his run with birdies at 12 and 13; when Richard Sterne made bogeys at 14 and 16, they found themselves tied for the lead going into the 72nd hole. Lowry would reach the green in two on the par-5 18th, and a two-putt birdie would seal his 4th career European Tour victory and his first since the 2015 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Next week, the European Tour heads to Dubai for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
