2019 Puerto Rico Open Preview
Posted on February 19 2019
Played opposite of the World Golf Championships – Mexico Championship, some of the best PGA Tour players head to the beautiful shores of Rio Grande at the Puerto Rico Open. The tournament was cancelled last year due to hurricane damage, but D.A. Points will finally get the opportunity to defend his 2017 title against other proven PGA Tour champions, including soon-to-be Hall of Famer Retief Goosen and former major champions John Daly and David Duval. Other notables in the field include past Puerto Rico Open winners Scott Brown and Michael Bradley, as well as 4-time PGA Tour winner Chris Kirk.
Coco Beach Golf and Country Club’s Championship Course will host the event once again. A Tom Kite design, the golf course measures over 6,800 meters, the layout is situated near the ocean as well as the rainforest, which provides a unique challenge for the game’s best.
Players to Watch:
Aaron Baddeley: He’s had a solid 2018-2019 season, and is currently 87th in the FedEx Cup Standings. With one top-10 finish so far this season, he’s in prime position to make a move up the standings with a strong performance in Puerto Rico.
Nate Lashley: His victory in the Dominican Republic during the 2017 Web.com Tour season is what catapulted Lashley to the PGA Tour, and he’s certainly holding his own in 2019. Look for him to be a factor and further solidify his playing privileges for next season.
