The biggest party on the PGA Tour is set to kick off this week at the Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale. Last year, Gary Woodland ended a long winless drought in a playoff over Chez Reavie. He's ready to defend his title against a stellar field, including 3-time winner Phil Mickelson, who also attended Arizona State University in nearby Tempe. Other notables include Matt Kuchar, who already has two wins this season, and former FedEx Cup Champion Justin Thomas.
TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course has been the host course of this event since 1987. It is best known for the party atmosphere, particularly on the 16th hole.
Players to Watch:
Jon Rahm: Another Arizona State Alum, he has played well in the early part of the season, with both his PGA Tour victories coming in January. The crowds will be in his favor, so it should be no surprise to see him contend this week.
Hideki Matsuyama: After winning the 2016 and 2017 editions of this event, it's clear that Hideki loves this golf course. He went winless last season, so he will be eager to play at a tournament wjere he's performed so well.
