2019 Zurich Classic of New Orleans Preview
Posted on April 23 2019
This is the third edition of the PGA Tour’s only official team event at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Last year, the duo of Scott Piercy and Billy Horschel outlasted Jason Dufner and Pat Perez for the victory, and the team has reunitied to try and become the first back-to-back winner of this format. Other teams who are looking to steal their thunder include the long-hitting pair of Bubba Watson and J.B. Holmes, the Koepka brothers Brooks and Chase, and the Australian major-championship powerhouse team of Adam Scott and Jason Day. The four rounds will consist of two rounds of alternate shot in rounds 2 and 4 with best ball being played in rounds 1 and 3.
TPC Louisiana has hosted this tournament every year since 2007. Despite being nearly 7000 meters long at sea level, winners of the team format need to score extremely well, especially in the best ball format.
Teams to Watch:
Charley Hoffman/Nick Watney: Hoffman’s runner up finish at the Valero Texas Open has him in prime position to make the FedEx Cup playoffs, and Nick Watney is looking for a spark to revitalize his career. They have 9 PGA Tour wins combined, and their games should compliment each other well.
Adam Scott/Jason Day: They both contended in the Masters Tournament, and are both proven winners on the PGA Tour. With Scott’s ball-striking prowess and Day’s wizardry with the putter, look for them to be a factor on the weekend.
