BMW Championship Preview
Aronimink Golf Club, just outside Philadelphia, is the host course for the third leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Last year, Australian Marc Leishman blew the field away, winning by five strokes over Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler. This year, Marc returns to defend his title against the top 70 in the FedEx Cup points standings, including past BMW Championship winners Dustin Johnson and Jason Day. Other notables include the FedEx Cup points leader Bryson DeChambeau, who has been on a hot streak winning the first two playoff events, Tiger Woods, who needs a strong finish to secure his spot in the Tour Championship, and leading Player of the Year candidate Brooks Koepka.
The Donald Ross-designed Aronimink Golf Club hosts this tournament for the first time. Since its current location was founded in 1928, the course has hosted major championships, including the 1962 PGA Championship, 1977 U.S. Amateur, and the 2003 Senior PGA Championship.
Players to Watch:
Cameron Smith: The young Australian has been moving up the Playoff rankings quickly. A T3 at the NORTHERN TRUST followed by a solo third in Boston, he’s moved into the top 10 in FedEx Cup points. Look for Cameron to be a factor come Sunday
Phil Mickelson: With its proximity to the New York/New Jersey area, the fans will certainly be behind Lefty. After a final round 63 at the Dell Technologies Championship, Phil will be looking to cap off what has been a great season for the 48-year-old Hall of Famer.
