The European Tour returns to Belgium for the first time since 2000 with a unique format. The first 36 holes will determine the 64-player single elimination brackets. Once the weekend is reached, there will be three nine-hole knockout rounds, after which the remaining eight players will return Sunday and play down to a winner. Three-time European Tour winner and Belgian native Thomas Pieters will serve as the tournament host and is in a field which includes fellow multiple-time winners Joost Luiten, Robert Karlsson, and Marcus Fraser.
Rinkven International GC in Antwerp will host this event for the first time. Is it a par-71 and measures about 6000 meters. The last person to win a European Tour event in Belgium is former world number one Lee Westwood; he is not in the field.
Players to Watch
Chris Wood: A month-long break from competitive golf should mean that the three-time winner should be rested and ready to go. A runner-up finish in Oman is his best result this season; don’t be surprised to see him match or better that result this week.
Adrian Otaegui: Currently ranked 20th in the Race to Dubai standings, Adrian has had a very consistent season, including five straight top-20 finishes. It’s only a matter of time before the young Spaniard adds a second title to his resumé.
