Posted on June 03 2018

Fans of the European Tour were treated to a thrilling final round at the Italian Open, where Danish pro Thorbjørn Olesen surged with a final-round 7-under 64 to win by one stroke over hometown favorite Francesco Molinari. Having started the day one shot behind overnight leader Lee Slattery, Olesen put together a flawless final round, with seven birdies and no bogeys. The solo second for Molinari comes a week after his win at the BMW PGA Championship, and vaults him in to the top spot of the Race to Dubai Standings.
For Thorbjørn Olesen, the win is his fifth career European Tour victory and his first since the Turkish Open in November 2016. He too made a big move in the Race to Dubai Standings, and is now in 6th place.
Next week, the European Tour heads to Vienna, Austria for the Shot Clock Masters.
