This week, the European Tour arrives in Crans Montana, Switzerland for the 47th Annual Omega European Masters. Last year, Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick defeated Australian Scott Hend on the third playoff hole for his fourth career European Tour victory. This year, Fitzpatrick will defend his title against an amazingly talented field, including past European Masters champions David Lipsky and Danny Willett. Other notables include John Daly, who is making his 170th career European Tour start this week, last week’s winner Matt Wallace, and 11-time European Tour winner Robert Karlsson.
Crans-Sur-Sierre Golf Club has been the only host of the Omega European Masters. Since its opening of the first nine holes in 1906, with a second nine opening in 1908, Crans-Sur-Sierre Golf Club was renovated by European Tour legend Seve Ballesteros in 1995 and also bares the Spaniard’s name.
Players to Watch:
Lee Westwood: The 23-time European Tour winner has been on a comeback of sorts, and quickly rounding into form. A playoff loss last week in Denmark could be the spark he needs to claim his first European Tour win since 2014.
Andrea Pavan: His last three starts have been impressive: a T14, T6, and a win at the Czech Masters has Andrea in prime position to have the best season of his career. After a week off, he should be fresh and rested going into the European Masters.
