After a one-year hiatus, the Open de España returns to the European Tour schedule. The 2016 champion, Andrew “Beef” Johnston will finally have the opportunity to defend his first Tour title. Headlining the field is Madrid native world-ranked number 4 Jon Rahm, who is coming off a solo-4th finish at the Masters. Rahm will be making his debut at his homeland’s national open. Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Alvaro Quiros, and Pablo Larrazabal are some of the other notable Spaniards in this week’s field.
The tournament has been played since 1972, and has a wide array of past champions, including Arnold Palmer, Seve Ballesteros, and Sergio Garcia. Centro Nacional de Golf will host this year’s event for the first time.
