PGA Tour - 2018 Houston Open Wrap-Up
Posted on April 01 2018
Fans were treated to some great golf this week as Ian Poulter and Beau Hossler duked it out for the last spot into the Masters. In the end, Ian Poulter wins on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff. After they started the day tied for the lead, both Hossler and Poulter traded the lead back and forth, and Beau held a one-stroke lead heading into the 18th hole. In thrilling fashion, after Hossler narrowly missed a putt for the win, Poulter sank his birdie putt, sending them into extra holes.
Replaying the 18th, Beau Hossler struggled, finding the fairway bunker off the tee and a greenside bunker with his approach. After Ian played his second shot onto the green, Beau hit his bunker shot over the green and into the water. Two putts from Poulter later, and he had his 3rd career PGA Tour victory and first since 2012. After some confusion about his status into next week’s major, Ian Poulter can now officially punch his ticket to Augusta.
