PGA Tour - 2018 PLAYERS Championship Wrap Up
Posted on May 13 2018

With no wind and warm conditions, the normally-difficult TPC Sawgrass was ripe for low scoring, and former U.S. Open Champion Webb Simpson was spectacular, going wire-to-wire for a four-shot victory over Charl Schwartzel, Jimmy Walker, and Xander Schauffele. Starting with a tournament-record seven shot lead, Webb played steadily, never putting himself at risk to ruin his big lead. His only severe blemish was a double-bogey 6 on the last, but by then the tournament was over. His 1-over final round of 73 was good enough to earn his fifth career PGA Tour victory, snapping a four-and-a-half year winless drought, valuting him into the top-10 of the FedEx Cup standings. Tiger Woods, who had to sweat the cut line for most of Friday, gave the crowds a thrill over the weekend, shooting 65 on Saturday and going out in 32 on the front nine Sunday. Unfortunately, his momentum came to a halt with a double-bogey 5 on the island green 17th. A final round 69 gave him a tie for 11th.
Next week, the PGA Tour pays tribute to one of the game's legends at the AT&T Byron Nelson.
