PGA Tour - 2018 the Memorial Tournament
Posted on May 31 2018
The PGA Tour returns to the home of the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus, at the 43rd Annual the Memorial Tournament. Last year, Jason Dufner earned his fifth career PGA Tour event by three shots over Rickie Fowler and Anirban Lahiri. This year, he’ll defend his title against one of the strongest fields in a non-major, which includes the newly-crowned world number-one Justin Thomas. Past Memorial Tournament champions in the field include Justin Rose, William McGirt, and five-time winner of the event Tiger Woods. Other notables include Rory McIlroy, who finished runner-up in Europe last week, and Jason Day, who lives in Ohio and is considered a hometown favorite.
Muirfield Village Golf Club has hosted every Memorial Tournament since its inception in 1976. Aside from the Memorial, it has also hosted several other national and team competitions, including the U.S. Amateur, the Ryder Cup, the Solheim Cup, and, most recently, the 2013 President’s Cup.
Players to Watch
Rory McIlroy: A difficult finish at Wentworth shouldn’t deter Rory, who has been playing extremely well this season. With a win at Arnold Palmer’s tournament earlier this season, a win at Jack’s place would be a great addition to his trophy case.
Jason Day: Although he hasn’t had the greatest success at Muirfield Village, it’s still been an incredible season for Day. Two wins, coupled with being in his adopted home state, could be the boost he needs to vault him into contention come Sunday.
