PGA Tour - 2018 Valero Texas Open Preview
Posted on April 17 2018
The PGA Tour returns to San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open. Last year, Kevin Chappell won in thrilling fashion, making birdie at the last to win by one stroke over Brooks Koepka. He will defend his title against a tough field, which includes past champions Charley Hoffman, Jimmy Walker, and Adam Scott. Other notables in the field include U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Jim Furyk and former major champions Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer.
The Valero Texas Open has been played since 1922 and is the longest running tournament on the PGA Tour to stay in the same city. The AT&T Oaks Course has hosted the tournament since 2010; a Greg Norman design, its been a relative challenge for the world’s best players, with the winning score ranging from -8 to -14.
Players to Watch
Si Woo Kim: A playoff loss last week in Harbour Town moved him into the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings. Look for him to keep his good form going this week in San Antonio.
Beau Hossler: The college standout at University of Texas has played great golf lately, including a runner-up to Ian Poulter in Houston two weeks ago. Don’t be surprised to see his name near the leaderboard on the weekend.
Tony Finau: Even without a win, he’s quietly having the best season of his career, with five top-10s, including two runner-ups. Be on the lookout to better his T-3 from last year’s event.
