The PGA Tour returns to Charlotte, North Carolina for the sixteenth edition of the Wells Fargo Championship. Last year, Brian Harman sunk a 25-footer on the 72nd hole to defeat Dustin Johnson and Pat Perez by a stroke. He will be defending his title against one of the toughest fields in a non-major, which includes past Wells Fargo Champions Rory McIlroy, J.B. Holmes, as well as the 2007 champion, Tiger Woods, who is making his first start since the Masters. Other notables in the field include Phil Mickelson, Jason Day, and the reigning FedEx Cup champ Justin Thomas.
The tournament returns to Quail Hollow after a one-year stint at Eagle Point Golf Club due to the former hosting the PGA Championship last year. Weather plays a huge factor in the scoring, as it is one of the toughest courses when it plays hard and fast.
Players to Watch:
Rory McIlroy: Already a two-time winner at this event, the course favors someone who can bomb off the tee, which is his bread and butter. Look for him to shake off the disappointment from Augusta and be in the hunt on Sunday.
Rickie Fowler: A runner-up in the Masters should serve as a springboard for the four-time Tour winner. Having already won this event in 2010 in a thrilling playoff, he has shown comfort on this demanding golf course. Don’t be surprised to see him pick up victory #5 this week.
